Supersonic and Hypersonic Drag Coefficients for a Sphere

چکیده
A comprehensive review of all relevant experimental data was completed, including recent for the drag coefficient a sphere in supersonic and hypersonic flows. The primary characterization parameter included relative Mach, Knudsen, Reynolds numbers based on velocity, diameter, other parameters. This showed that previously proposed nexus at number below 45 not strictly met, it instead weak transonic bump, which identified numerically first time with present simulations. New continuum-gas rarefied-gas simulations were conducted combined expanded dataset to improve quantitative description this region. results indicated quasi bridges rarefaction regime compressible flow regimes. then used develop new empirical models improved robustness accuracy as compared previous models. These are limited by critical associated boundary-layer transition sphere, found increase substantially Mach number.

Supersonic/Hypersonic Temperature/Drag- Reduction and Vehicle Control
Lines of energy are deposited ahead of supersonic and hypersonic vehicles in order to create a low-density channel, through which a vehicle can travel with dramatically reduced drag. Temperature and pressure are both also reduced on the front surfaces of the vehicle, while density and pressure are increased at the vehicle base. When applied off-center, this technique can be used to control the ...
متن کاملComparison of Lift and Drag Forces for Some Conical Bodies in Supersonic Flow Using Perturbation Techniques
Numerical methods are not always convergent especially in higher velocities when shock waves are involved. A comparison analysis is performed to study the supersonic flow over conical bodies of three different cross sections circular, elliptic and squircle (square with rounded corners) shaped using Perturbation techniques to find flow variables analytically. In order to find lift and drag forc...

متن کاملSphere Drag and Heat Transfer
Modelling fluid flows past a body is a general problem in science and engineering. Historical sphere drag and heat transfer data are critically examined. The appropriate drag coefficient is proposed to replace the inertia type definition proposed by Newton. It is found that the appropriate drag coefficient is a desirable dimensionless parameter to describe fluid flow physical behavior so that f...
متن کاملHeat Transfer on a Hypersonic Sphere with Gas Injection
The interaction of a diffusing outgas flow from a sphere nose opposing a hypersonic free stream is studied numerically using the direct simulation Monte-Carlo technique under the transitional rarefied-gas-flow regime conditions at Knudsen numbers from 0.016 to 1.5 and blowing factors from 0.15 to 1.5. Strong influences of the blowing factor (the ratio of outgas mass flux to upstream mass flux) ...
